There are several attractions to visit if you ever travel to Lithuania. 1984: Isgyvenimo Drama (or 1984: Survival Drama) is a reproduction of an actual Soviet bunker built in the 1980s.
To get more information about the site and its attractions, you can visit their website at sovietbunker.com. When the bunker was built, it was done to protect an emergency television broadcaster in the event of a nuclear war.
The site is located 25 kilometers from Vilnius and it goes down below the ground for 5 meters. This is actually the world’s first underground museum. The experience inside the bunker is not limited to looking at all the collection pieces. The best part is the actual experience of experiencing what it was like to be there in the 1980s through a reenactment.
When you go into the cold and damp bunker, you are stripped of all your possessions and you stay inside for two to two and a half hours. You are dressed with Soviet-era gear and a guardian takes you in. Once you get inside, this is where the real fun begins.
All of the performers in the enactment speak Russian, which might lead to confusion to tourists that do not speak the language. However, this is done to make the experience as vivid as possible.
Among the things they will have you do there is use a gas mask, endure hard interrogations from Russian officers to make you confess crimes you did not commit. You are even forced to learn the Soviet anthem. A medical examination with doctors from the era is performed on you.
It is quite the experience. Reliving events from the past right where they happened is a truly rewarding and unforgettable experience.
